Multnomah County Sheriff retires after 35 years of service

Wednesday is Multnomah County Sheriff Bob Skipper's last day on the job.

In September, he announced his retirement (effective Nov. 5, 2009) after he failed to obtain necessary certification that was required by the state.

Skipper needed the certification to keep his job and had a year to pass the exam.  But he failed it twice. He did request a temporary certification to complete a 16-week basic training course but the request was denied by the Public Safety Standards and Training.

On Thursday, Lt. Dan Staton will take Skipper's place.

GOOD TIME TO RETIRE.

IF YOU CAN'T PASS THE TESTS, THEN IT'S TIME TO HAND OVER THE REINS.

Thank you for trying to do the right thing Sheriff Skipper!  Your an amazing human being for stepping up like you have.  Thank you all your years of service, it is all of our loss.   D.P.S.S.T.  really needs to bend over and get their head out of you know where.................maybe if they blow really hard they could clear out all of the crap they've been sucking in! This is the dumbest thing...........enjoy your freedom from the senseless crap and stress.   Hugs & prayers to you & your family

It is you're (you are) "an amazing human being", not "your"...

The use of "Your" would constitute possesion of something. He is not in possesion of "an amazing human being".

Just a polite suggestion for your future reference. And you might want to take a look at this as well; "it is all of our loss".

Have a great day!

Thank you for the lesson in grammar...

That being said, I do believe that the article above is about a wonderful man that has to retire after 35 years of dedicated service.

Please try to focus on the actual issue and not the typo's, spelling and/or grammar of people expressing their well wishes for a man that the truly admire.

Can't pass the test, Can't pass the physical; A 35 year SHAM!

The basic police academy is designed for brand new cops.  This guy had been doing the job for years, but being the Sheriff of Multnomah County is about as far from being a street cop as it gets.  He's freakin' 70 years old, sure he's not going to pass the physical.  The ability to pass the basic police academy has very little to do with the administraion of a large law enforcement agency like Multnomah County.

Sheriff Skipper - Thank you so much for theseveral decades of law enforcement with Multnomah County. You'veshown incredible integrity and have done an excellent job. I grew up with your son, Ted. I also knew your daughter, Teresa but she was 2 years older. Ted and I were in the same class in the 4th grade at West Orient Elementary School. At that time you were a Police Officer with the Gresham Police Dept. I still remember the day you came to visit our class. You were in uniform and explained your job as a cop and answered our questions. We all got such a kick out of it. Best wishes and enjoy your retirement.

Sheriff Skipper--  Congratulations on an outstanding career.  Thank you for all of your service to this community.  While it may be difficult to walk away from this profession, remember to enjoy your retirement-- again.
