Morrison Bridge to go orange in advance of Civil War game

For 11 straight nights, the Morrison Bridge will be lit up in orange as the Beavers prepare to go head-to-head against the Ducks in this year's Civil War game.

Bob Miller, morning radio host for KPAM (the Portland flagship station of the Beaver Sports Radio Network) and Pat Reser, co-chair of The Campaign for OSU, are paying for the bridge lighting.

Starting Monday, Nov. 23, the lights will go on at dusk and turn off at 1 a.m., and then will come on again at 5 a.m. and turn off at 8 a.m.

More than 1,000 LED lights are being used to light up the bridge's 265-foot span.

The Beavers are going to need all the help they can get.  The Ducks will roll.  Once Autzen Stadium gets rolling, OSU won't know what hit them.  I hope the get the stadium noise level around 130 decibels and lets see the Beaver play in that.

GO DUCKS!!!!

I'm a Beaver believer but was so excited to watch the Ducks last weekend.  They worked hard and it paid off.  I think it is important to remember you can be a fan of one team without hating the other.  Let's all be proud regardless how it turns out that an Oregon team is going to the Rose Bowl.

Wow... Obviously you have either never attended OSU, or you live in Eugene and have become contaminited with their waterchicken drool!

Anonymous's picture

Wow that is stupid!!

Carrie's picture

Wow, you guys are some angry ducks!  Let the unfriendly banter begin...

The beavers are going to win, not by allot, but they will win.

Better quarterback, check the stats.

Better runningback, check the stats.

Better defense too.

You are right about one thing though; I have been to Autzen, out on the field, the Ducks fans are loud and obnoxious, but it wont help them this time.

while numbers mean a lot, at the same time they mean nothing. you cant always base a game off numbers. USC was suppose to win according to stats but they lost to ducks, ducks were favored against stanford and boise and that didnt turn out right either,

so you saying look at stats means nothing what-so-ever its just gonna come down to game day

Is it just me or does this sound like a giant waste of money that could go to helping people out during the holidays? How much is it going to cost to do this? With all of the charities that are begging for help this time of year it just seem like a giant wase of money that could go to helping people becuse it sure isnt going to help the beavers!

Anonymous's picture

I heard it was about 800 bucks, or approximately 1/500th the cost paid by the ducks for their extra half dozen sets of football helmets.

ha ha....NICE

Anonymous's picture

I agree!!  There are plenty of people in the city of Portland and the state of Oregon that could really use some assistance at this time of year - seems like a foolish waste of money.

A waste of money-- you mean like the tax and/or tuition money paid to attorneys and to transform the landmark "Made in Oregon" sign to an advertisement for the U of O???  $1,100 vs $1,000,000 plus?

At OSU you can learn math.

Wow Beaver fans copy the Huskies, at least come up with your own ideas.

And ask them how that worked out for them..

Anonymous's picture

Beaver fans copy the Huskies?! Come up with our own ideas!? Nice BLACK uniforms Ducks! Hmm..where did you get that idea?

Anonymous's picture

HA HA HA.....making a comment about how this money could have been better spent being donated to charities. You duckies are just TOOOOOOO FUNNY!!! Naturally the big screen tvs in the locker room, vidio games systems as well? not to mention the bajillion uniform combinations....those are all ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY and would not have been better spent being donated to charity, right? How much money was wasted on the black uniforms just so you could try and be like the Beavs??

Anonymous's picture

It's private money.  Let them waste it however they want.  If it was taxpayer money, I'd feel differently.

And realistically, if there is one thing anyone has learned in the 100+ years of this civil war, it's that records, stats and home turf mean nothing.

Go Beavs!

JuJu's picture

I love the idea...and I'm a Duck fan!!!  It's good times for the State of Oregon as a whole, my only real question is - is there anybody out there willing to pay to light something up in GREEN (and GOLD) :)

Anonymous's picture

It really doens't matter who wins the civil wars, becuase the Ohio Buckeyes will wipe the floor with either team....   O-H-I-O  GO BUCKS!

If they are going to light up the Morrison Bridge for the Bevs.

Can Randy Lenoard allow the Made In Oregon sign to be lighted up for a short time, or is he against football to!

The money for changing the lights does go to charity.

Money to burn in a lousy economy.

Have some morals.

Donate the cash to the food bank.

I tend to lean Beaver although I went to PSU.  I think this is a great idea and would love to get some pictures.

It's too bad fans have to be so darn rude and nasty towards each other.  Maybe everyone who is complaining about the lights should do some fact checking to verify their comments - complaining about the waste of money that goes to charity, not to mention the fact - do you personally know Pat Reser and Bob Miller and know everything they do with their money?  You have no idea what else they do during the holidays to support the community.  Give them the benefit of the doubt.

Case in point - Duck fans are nasty, nasty people.  Beav fans do their fare share, but there's a reason the Duck community is rated the worst, most rude fans in the Pac-10.  You'd have more people respecting you if you respected others, which you clearly don't.

Since neither U of O or OSU main campus is not in Portland, I don't understand why both colors are not shown.  I guess since the Resers are paying for the lights, that is revenue for the county.  Money talks especially with governments getting stripped of more and more tax dollars because of URAs and anti-tax measures.

We live far away from Oregon and enjoy the lively rivalry and the great seasons the Ducks & Beavs have had. It's so cool the Morrison will be lit in orange, even tho' we'll be rooting for the green.
