Get out to the restaurant tonight because it will feature live music, roving bagpipers and a menu laced with Irish fare. It's known as Portland's oldest celebration of St. Patrick's Day.

Citizens call for police review

PORTLAND, Ore. - Dozens of people gathered Sunday at Portland State University to demand higher standards and better training for those in the Portland Police Bureau. They voiced their concerns to the Citizens Review Committee, shown at the front of the room in the photo above.

Kim Stafford on being a 'pilgrim at home'

What: Part of the pleasure of daily life can be paying attention to the way little events in the outer world can stimulate discoveries in the inner life. Kim Stafford will talk about this experience as a “pilgrim at home,” a seeker after beauties, puzzles, stories, and other encounters savored by daily writing practice. Stafford is the founding director of the Northwest Writing Institute at Lewis and Clark College, and author of a dozen books of poetry and prose. FOR MORE DETAILS

Bill Nye the Science Guy is in town

The guy who makes science fun was at Vancouver's Skyview High School Thursday morning where he gave a presentation on volcanoes to the school district's 6th graders. The event was invitation only.

He is also slated to be in downtown Portland Thursday evening for another talk on volcano science, specifically as it relates to Mount St. Helens. This appearance is open to the public. Tickets at the door are $25 for adults and $10 for students. A limited number of tickets may be available online at $15 for adults and $5 for students. Kids under 5 are free.

The talk starts at 7 p.m. and is at the First Congregational Church at 1126 S.W. Park.

Zombies vs. Robots

What:  The final battle for pop culture superiority will be waged as Portland area Zombies and Robots gather at Dante's to fight it out in a battle of epic proportions.

When: Saturday, March 13. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Where: Dante's is located at Southwest 3rd and Burnside.

Admission: $10. Donations will benefit the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter. Attendees are encouraged to bring small items such as toothbrushes, crayons, markers, coloring books, travel-size umbrellas, water bottles, etc. - anything that can be given to people in need of disaster relief.
