Morning shooting labeled gang related

PORTLAND, Ore. - Police are calling a shooting this morning in downtown Portland gang related.

It happened around 1:45 a.m. Saturday near Southwest Fourth Avenue and Oak Street.

One man was shot. We're told that a friend drove him to the hospital, and his wounds aren't life-threatening.

No arrests have been made.

Police need help to ID 'Oxy Bandit'

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, is asking for the public's help in identifying the "Oxy Bandit", a robbery suspect.

At approximately 1:18 p.m. Feb. 21, a southwest Portland Safeway Pharmacy (8145 Southwest Barbur Boulevard), was robbed by a lone male. The suspect entered the store and stole Oxycontin from the pharmacy before fleeing the scene.

Within the past month, this same suspect has robbed several locations within the Portland-metro area and police need the public's help to find him.

The "Oxy Bandit" is a white male, in his 50s, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 and between 190-210 pounds. He has graying hair, a gray stubby beard and was wearing a red and black baseball cap. He has also been seen wearing a white baseball cap and glasses.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony, and you remain anonymous.

Citizens call for police review

PORTLAND, Ore. - Dozens of people gathered Sunday at Portland State University to demand higher standards and better training for those in the Portland Police Bureau. They voiced their concerns to the Citizens Review Committee, shown at the front of the room in the photo above.

Suspect sought after BofA is robbed

PORTLAND, Ore. - Police are on the lookout for a man who walked into a downtown Portland bank, handed over a demand note to a teller and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

The robbery happened on Wednesday, Feb. 17 just after noon at the Bank of America at 121 S.W. Morrison Street.

The suspect is described as an older white male between 50 and 60 years old and weighing approximately 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark coat and hat.

'Hysterical' woman steals car, leads cops on chase before crashing

A woman police described as "hysterical" stole a car Thursday morning, led cops on a chase on two freeways before she crashed into another car before cops arrested her.

At approximately 11:34 a.m., Clark County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home at 5515 NE 45th Ave. in Vancouver on information from Department of Corrections that Jalyssa Wegesa, 23, was at the residence and she had a misdemeanor no-bail warrant for her arrest.

As deputies were arriving in the area, Wegesa, who was reportedly high on methamphetamine or cocaine, stole a white Subaru hatchback from the home's driveway and left at a high rate of speed.

Friend of burning man: Judeo-Christians 'complicit' in his death

PORTLAND, Ore. - Eleven days after a fur protester died after lighting himself on fire in downtown Portland, a friend of the protester speaks out.

Fellow animal activist Ruth Eisenbud had this to say in a statement e-mailed to us Monday:

"On Jan. 27, 2010, Daniel Shaull set himself on fire in front of Ungar's Fur Shop in Portland, Ore., to protest the wasteful and cruel abuses of the fur industry. Not much accurate information has been released about the life of Daniel Shaull...

Woman strangled in downtown apartment

Police say an unresponsive woman carried from the Helen Swindell Apartments in downtown Portland Monday was strangled.

She has been identified as 43-year-old Faith Blackbird. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Helen Swindell Apartments are at 10 N.W. Broadway, between West Burnside/Northwest Broadway streets and Northwest Couch Street.

On Feb. 1, around 8:30 p.m., Portland Police Officers responded to the building "to investigate a disturbance," according to a press release.

Arrest made in downtown stabbing

PORTLAND, Ore. - A person was stabbed several times in downtown Portland late Monday night and police have a suspect in custody.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. at Southwest Park Avenue and Oak Street.

Police say when they arrived, they found a person on the ground suffering from multiple stab wounds. The wounds were not life threatening.

Police arrested Demarcus Warner (pictured) in connection with the assault. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of assault in the first degree.
